Mom, Dad, Alice Cooper and a few other Things...

Another school year was officially finished yesterday at around 10:30 am. I went into work basically to help pack up the room for one of the dreaded room moves that all teachers try to avoid but experience throughout their tenure. I finished much earlier than expected and I clocked out, said my goodbyes and came home to my loving family. There was no Alice Cooper blaring on my car stereo singing "School's Out for Summer!" However I might have been humming that a few times the week before when we still had students roaming the halls.

All in all I must say that this has been one of the most rewarding years as an educator. I help in a class that is called a "cluster" class it houses three grade levels of EC (Special Education which has been politically correct called Exceptional Children or EC for short) we went from five students at the beginning of the year to eight by the end. I bit the bullet and I got my bus license all the while moaning and groaning. This in itself is very ironic  because one of the things I remember saying when in high school to my then bus driver Rev. Cockrell was "I am never going to set foot on one of these yellow things ever again!" I then proceeded to become a coach out of college and now I have my own route, so I am on one of those "yellow things" about three hours a day morning and afternoon.

I rode to the mall with my oldest boy driving yesterday. It took me to a time when I was driving my dad around the countryside learning to drive. He was the most patient man I ever knew. I on the other hand am not AS patient but I am better than most, including my wife, when it comes to teaching.
We were heading to the mall so I could get my forty-five minute walk in, not to buy things which kind of bummed out Nick. We got our walk in and we had a good talk about his future, Disney World, and dad stuff. This too made me think of dad I remember just walking with him and talking anything from Cardinal baseball to fishing.

I grilled some chicken and fish (plus a few hot dogs) last night they were good. I used a seasoning called Spike on the fish. I was introduced to Spike by my mom. It was a favorite seasoning in our house and you'd find it on anything including one of my brother Dave's favorite ways eggs which I used on mine today.

We are heading to Asheville this morning so I will cut this short. Stay tuned for new installments whenever I get a thought that I got to get out.
